What is glare and is all glare equal?
Glare is a visual sensation that occurs when too much light enters your eye and interferes with ability of the eye to manage this light.
Glare can be classified according to the way it impacts the eye and the impact if has on the quality of vision.
Blinding or Reflected Glare is light reflected off shiny or smooth surfaces such as water, roads, sand or wet surfaces. This type of glare can block vision or seriously obscure it. Blinding or reflected glare can also cause significant discomfort or even pain.
Disabling Glare is light from a direct light source such as that experienced when facing the sun. Disabling glare can significantly reduce vision and can cause discomfort.
Discomforting Glare can occur at any time of the day or in any weather condition. It is when the eye is unable to naturally adapt to certain conditions such as moving from shade into bright sunlight. It can cause short-lived eye fatigue.
Quality polarized lenses are a common solution to address each category of glare. Only polarized lenses – and not ordinary tinted lenses – can eliminate each glare type.
