Why are polarized sunglasses significantly better around water than regular sunglasses?
On a bright sunny day when sunlight hits a body of water such as the ocean, lake, pool, creek or river, blinding glare is produced. This blinding glare severely obstructs vision, causes considerable discomfort, and can result in eye fatigue and pain.
Blinding glare occurs when light waves from the sun hit a body of water or reflective surface. Light waves from the sun travel in all directions – both horizontally and vertically. However, when these light waves hit a body of water, the vertical waves are absorbed while the horizontal waves bounce off the water’s surface.
When these bounced horizontal light waves reach the eye, it causes blinding glare and the associated discomfort and compromised vision.
Ordinary tinted sunglass lenses cannot remove blinding glare. Only quality polarized sunglass lenses with high polarizing efficiency like NuPolar can remove blinding glare.
NuPolar polarized lenses function like a venetian blind by blocking the horizontal light waves that cause blinding glare, yet the lens allows useful vertical light waves through to the eye for optimal vision. The higher the polarizing efficiency, the more horizontal light waves are blocked. At 99% polarizing efficiency, NuPolar lenses achieve the highest level of efficiency you can get.
When wearing polarized sunglasses around water on a sunny day, your vision is glare free and comfortable, along with being able to enjoy enhanced contrast and vibrant colours.
