Why should I choose polarized sunglasses over regular tinted sunglasses?
Both regular tinted sunglasses and polarized sunglasses reduce brightness and excess light outdoors.
However, only polarized sunglasses can block blinding glare reflected off shiny surfaces. This blinding glare can at best compromise vision and comfort, while at worst it can dangerously obstruct vision.
The polarizing filter in polarized sunglass lenses block the horizontal light waves reflected off smooth and shiny surfaces. This reflected horizontal light is what causes the uncomfortable and dangerous blinding glare.
By allowing only vertical light waves to reach the eye – which are the light waves that allow us to experience enhanced contrast and colour – vision is more vibrant and comfortable. Not to mention enhanced safety by blocking the dangerous blinding glare.
In a nutshell, while both ordinary tinted sunglasses and polarized sunglasses reduce excess light outdoors, only quality polarized sunglasses block blinding glare for greater comfort, enhanced safety, better visual acuity and more vibrant vision.
